Devlog #17 - SYNTHADOME 0.75: Intro, Dialogue, Particle Effects, and UI rework
In SYNTHADOME version 0.75, I made 4 distinct changes and additions,
Intro Video
the first and most noticeable, is the video introduction that plays before the first level, providing some much needed plot flavour and context as to what is going on.
Dialogue
I added a basic dialogue system, and attached it to the first actual NPC: Dennis, The Sentient Sewer Donkey, who inhabits a new area that can be accessed by searching for a hidden entrance in the Martian Paradise. the position of the dialogue box is a little invasive as that's because its not set to scale with screen size, and will be fixed in the 0.8 version.
Particle Effects
Particle effects have previously been deployed as damage indicators indicating low health, and also critical health, I've deployed a third particle effect for the lava damage, a glowing orange pool around the player that turns on and off depending on whether the player is in lava or on a platform, all of this helps with readability!
UI rework
I've reworked the UI for the terminals slightly, as the way they work the player presses E, the canvas appears for five seconds in the middle of the screen, and then vanishes, in testing this felt too invasive, so I've moved them from the middle to the top right.
